GREEN BEE EATER ( LITTLE GREEN BEE EATER )
It is about 16-18 cm long with 2 inch tail-feather. The entire color is bright green and tinged with blue especially on the throat and chain. A black line runs in front of and behind of eyes. They are found in Africa, the Nile valley, western Arabia and Asia through India to Vietnam. They are found in grasslands, thin scrub and forests.This species often hunts from low perches.It readily makes use of fence and electric wires.They feed on flying insects and can sometimes be nuisance to bee-keepers.Picture taken at THOL LAKE(GUJARAT).
RED - WATTLED LAPWING : VANELLUS INDICUS
Red wattled lapwings are large waders. They are about 35cm long. The wings and back are light brown with a purple sheen. The head ,chest and front part of neck are black.It has characteristic loud alarm calls which are rendered as did he do it or pity to do it. It usually keeps in pair or trios in well watered countries and grasslands.The breeding season is mainly march to august.The eggs are laid in the ground scrape.
The diet of lapwing is mostly picked from the ground.They feed mainly during the day and may be sometimes at night.It breeds from West Asia,South Asia including all over India. Photo taken at Thol lake near to Ahmadabad with Canon EOS 1000d.
